چکیده
THE decarboxylase-inhibiting, sedative, and antihypertensive properties of amethyl-3,4-dihydroxy-DI,-phenylalanine (DL-amethyl-dopa) in man were first reported from this department in 1960.1 It was shown subsequently that these three properties of the compound reside solely in the L isomer (methyldopa, Aldomet) .2, 3 Numerous favorable reports on the use of methyldopa in the treatment of hypertension have appeared; prominent among these are the articles by Cannon et al.,4 Dollery and Harrington,5 Irvine et al.6 Smirk,7 and Hamilton and Kopelman.8 It is worth recalling that the original finding of blood pressure-lowering effects in man. was not predicted. The compound had beeni shown to have no significant cardiovascular hemodynamic effects in animals and was used solely as an investigational tool for inhibiting the decarboxylation of aromatic-L-amino acids added exogenously to in vitro or in vivo systems. It seemed doubtful that the synthesis of endogenous norepinephrine could be decreased (and blood pressure thereby lowered) even with a more potent decarboxylase inhibitor for the following reasons: formation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) from tyrosine is the rate-limiting step in synthesis, the amounts of dopa in tissues are so small as to be generally undetectable normally and the decarboxylation of dopa to dopamine (the immediate precursor of norepinephrine) is a highly efficient process. Indeed, it was the

In Vitro Inhibition of Human Sperm Creatine Kinase by Nicotine, Cotinine and Cadmium, as a Mechanism in Smoker Men Infertility
Background Nicotine, cotinine and cadmium are harmful components of cigarettes that have an effect on human reproductive function. Although the effects of cigarette smoke on male reproductive function is characterized in several articles its mechanism of action is still unknown. In the present study, we investigate the effect of nicotine, cotinine and cadmium on human sperm creatine kinase acti...
متن کاملSpectroscopic Studies on Titanium Ion Binding to the Apolactoferrin
Titanium (Ti) is a relatively abundant element that has found growing applications in medical science and recently some of Ti compounds are introduced as anticancer drugs. In spite of very limited data which exist on the Ti metabolism, some proteins might be involved in the mechanism of action of Ti. Up to our knowledge, there is not any report in the literature concerning binding of Ti to apol...
متن کاملElectrosynthesis of Clozapine Drug Derivative via an EC Electrochemical Mechanism
The fact that oxidation, as one of the main routes of phase I metabolism of drugs, follows by conjugation reactions, and also formation of nitrenium ion as one of the clozapine oxidation products, directed us to investigate the oxidation of clozapine (CLZ) in the presence of nucleophile. The oxidation of clozapine (CLZ) has been studied on a glassy carbon electrode in the absence and presence o...
متن کاملMetabolomics Analysis of Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Various mesenchymal stem cells as easily accessible and multipotent cells can share different essential signaling pathways related to their stemness ability. Understanding the mechanism of stemness ability can be useful for controlling the stem cells for regenerative medicine targets. In this context, OMICs studies can analyze the mechanism of different stem cells properties or stemness ability...
متن کاملA review of Ramadan fasting and diabetes mellitus: Controversies regarding the effects of Ramadan fasting on diabetic patients
Although several studies have investigated the effects of Ramadan fasting on diabetic patients, the exact impacts on diabetes control have not been well elucidated yet. There are neither precise quantitative criteria nor clear guidelines regarding Ramadan fasting for diabetic patients. This review aimed to discuss the results of previous studies. The neglected points in performed studies should...
متن کاملMetabolomics Application in Exercise Metabolism Research: A Review Study
Metabolomics, is a comprehensive measure of small metabolites (<1500 Da), which has attracted enormous attention in the last two decades. Metabolomics, in particular investigates unique biochemical fingerprints left behind by specific cellular processes, which represent the metabolic status. Exercise metabolism researchers have started to use this method since 2007. Metabolomics has been used t...
